Weekend Update

Merry Christmas Eve everyone... today is also my baby brother's golden birthday.... my sister found and posted this old pic on facebook this morning and it made me smile.. he used to be so little... now he is a 6' 7" mammoth of a dude, who just graduated college and is starting his real job in February!?! Time flies...

I am updating from the hospital in Nola, sitting by my mawmaw's side right now as she sleeps, the nurses had to give her two sleeping pills to get to bed last night and they are finally working... so I am glad she is getting rest. They put a stent in Friday and she said she felt better, but she is still needing oxygen and gets out of breath any time she sits up or has to move around too much and her BP is still really low- and fluctuating. We are hoping the doctor will come by today and give us an update on what her options are. They did tell us that she is too weak for open heart surgery and the meds didnt work, so the stent was her last option- I hate hearing that... or even accepting that. She turns 87 tomorrow, she is still so young... this woman helped raise me- she is more like a parent than a grandmother and I hate to see her suffer, but I dont want to have to deal with letting her go yet either, I wish we could fix her, but its just a waiting game to see how she does and keeping her on the meds.

Tonight we are having a Christmas Eve party with my cousins grandma, another lady that I respect and love, she is in her 90's- I think 95 now, and has outlived two husbands! The woman is amazing and I cant wait to see her, and although she isnt one of my grandmas technically- I have always counted her as one i see her more than my dad's mom... she is a cool lady so I am excited to see her tonight.

Tomorrow will be Christmas with my mom's whole side of the family - we are going to find out today if mawmaw can come home with oxygen or not for Christmas- if not, we will prolly be up here a good bit tomorrow too and then the hubs gets off the rig Wednesday morning and I get to see him again too! Thursday we leave for Maine to visit with his side of the family... and try not to freeze... I did hear we will be getting some of this though...

I LOVE SNOW!!! and I cant wait...

I also got the pics from my company Christmas party... they came out cute...

and some from the field Christmas party as well..

I hope everyone has a very....

Goals for the Weekend- 5K Trifecta!

My grandmother is still in ICU, she is having surgery today to have stents put in to open the valves in her heart, she may need it done to as many as 3 of the 4. She has had this done before and its not a major surgery, but she is also 87, so any surgery is scary... I think we are going to New Orleans this weekend to spend time with her, I was going to have my mom and brother join my sister and me at my house here, but I really want to get in some time with my grandmother as well.

My goals for this weekend are simple- I will be on the road and traveling this weekend- as well as all next week really, but I signed up for the 5k trifecta challenge through ML Fitcamp! I havent been running regularly in a few weeks, so its not going to be easy, but I want to get back into running, and what better way than 110% in!?!?

I can do this!!!! PLUS, I havent seen the scale drop since Thanksgiving week - the last time I was actually running regularly... and I did run a 5 miler on Thanksgiving day, SO 9 miles should really help!!

Another big weekend goal will be LOTS OF WATER!!!! That always helps!!!!!!

The next two weeks for me are going to be a blurr.... I over commit, I know I do, but I have problems saying no... its just something I have always had trouble with... which is why I stay pretty busy...

this weekend (my family)....

then next week and new years (hubs family)....

then the following weekend (hunting in SW Texas, lots of these there, glad I have snake boots)....

Recipes and More Updates

my go to breakfast drink every morning... okay so its not a recipe, but I have been lazy - read: to busy having fun with my sister who is visiting to cook up a new recipe, so for today, its my week day breakfast breakdown....

110 calories and 17g of protein?!? YES... I have this at 6am on the way to work, I even took this on my morning drive in!!! LOVE my Edge! okay so then around 9am I make oatmeal- I use the big jars of quick one minute oats- the plain boring ones that dont have all the additives that those tiny packets do... so then I add one splenda, cinnamon, fiber powder, almond slices, and pieces of walnut... its perfect and filling and good once you add in healthy additives!!! ok so splenda not so much, but no one is perfect.

Can you tell I am in a better mood today? I was in a funk yesterday, but the pity party is over and I am back in action...

I am crafy... ok well my sister is crafy and when we hang out she rubs off on me... if you remember our girls night trip to Lowes...

we got some wood to make race bibs!!! being the LSU fan I am... it HAD to be purple and gold... and being the dork I am, I screwed those hanger things in by hand, into wood... because the hubs took too long to text back about what tool I needed to use from his big collection... I am a resident beast, I know...

the finished products came out great... my LSU one and I made the hubs a Clemson one... because I am nice... and want him to run more with me... so I hope this is good motivation, so his board will look like mine one day!!!

while I finished my board my sister made jewelry!!!! I am loving these little nest deals... so I had her make one for me into a ring and want another as a necklace...

my ring, I am sporting it this morning... loves it!!! LSU colors, I know...

Harlee and my baby boy Hank... with Maddie looking on wishing she could be held that way too...

my awesome Christmas present from my friend that we had dinner with Tuesday night... LSU toms!!! Its my first pair of Toms, I love the concept of giving shoes to kids, but I usually dont wear shoes like this.... in these colors however, its on!!! :)

a pic of the sunrise from the hubs on the rig... cant wait til he gets home.... next Wednesday and then Thursday we go to Maine!!!

my baby brother graduated college!!!!

I am a very proud sissy!!!

took this at Lowes Sat night... my knees were a bit scuffed up from the mud run- but it was WAY worth it...

...speaking of run, I am doing the trifecta over Christmas holidays... running a 5k December 22, 23, and 24th... who else is doing it??? I am pretty excited.... I ran a 5 miler for Thanksgiving and actually lost weight over that holiday, hoping for a similar result here, I mean 9 total miles >>> 5 miles!!! :)

pity party- table for 1

I am not in a good place right now…

My mawmaw who helped raise me is back in ICU. She woke up Sunday morning around 1am unable to breathe, when the ambulance got there her BP was beyond high (240/180) and she has been in ICU getting meds ever since. They want her to have surgery because a valve in her heart is almost completely closed off – she doesn’t want surgery- they are trying med changes this week and monitoring her, but if those don’t work she needs surgery. I have tried talking to her about it and trying to convince her to do it, heck I even brought up great grand babies.. no dice. I love this woman more than I can even express… I want her to get better, and do whatever it takes to stay healthy…  I am not ready for her to go yet. I know its selfish, but I don’t care. Loss for me is so much harder because every time I lose someone else that I care about it re-opens the wounds of losing my dad—20 years ago next month. It seems like just yesterday. I can remember that day so vividly… yet cant remember what I did two weekends ago.

On top of that the hubs was supposed to get home Christmas day, but isn’t anymore… he will be home the 26th because we are going to see his mom the 27-2, but Christmas is my favorite holiday and not being able to spend it with him and the issues I am having with my grandma (her birthday is Christmas day) just ruins it for me… I know, I am in MAJOR pity party mode right now…

Also, my company just doubled in size, and we needed to hire more people before this, so stress levels are BEYOND high right now…

Back on topic… today was workouts and weigh in Wednesday… well the weigh in was crappy, but I knew it would be. Hi, my name is Melissa and I am an emotional eater. NO surprise I am up this week.

Workouts update and goals for this next week:

I missed out on two days this past week…

Wednesday- sports conditioning
Thursday- run
Friday- run
Saturday- Zombie 5k mud run in Austin with my sis.... so excited!!!
Sunday- rest day
Monday- stairmaster and weights
(actually did elliptical and treadmill instead of stairmaster)
Tuesday- run

This week:
W- sports conditioning
TH- run
F- run - intervals
Sat- run
Sun- rest
M- weight train
T- run

I am going to try running the sadness/stress away… this whole eating thing isn’t making it go away at all…. I know having a pity party isnt helping anyone, I need to get off my bum and sweat it out... and get back to eating right all the time, not just some of the time... its time to turn this train around!

…I know I owe another weekend recap, but I don’t have the pics on me, so that will have to come later!

Zombie Mud Run 2012- Austin

My weekend update is going to have to be in more than one post this week... A LOT happened!

I wanted to update on the mud run first, because it was a blast and the pictures are AWESOME!!! I wish I had paid for a camera strapped to my head because my sister is a zombie avoiding fool!!! She was pulling out basketball moves and it looked matrix like at times! She will be on my team if there is ever a zombie apocalypse!

In the car nervously awaiting our fate....

ready to roll!!!

after we finished... Kath kept one of her flags and survived. I lost a flag each mile, so I was one of the "undead"- but I was proud of my ability to hang on to them as long as I did...

so excited....

muddy messes...

with her last flag, she survived!!!

proud, as she should be!!!

i was proud too, and the medal is legit! i need to take a close up of it!

We had a blast, but I am STILL sore... all the obstacles, really kicked our butts!!!

my hands turned blue from the freezing water we had to use to rinse off...

took a few pics with some zombies after we cleaned up...

a few pics I took from outside the course of other people trying to pass the zombies....

Then we had a girls night and Harlee came over... and of course for girls night, we went to Lowes to get wood to make race bib display holders! Mine needs another coat, so more pics to come soon, but here are a couple from Lowes....

I  also found out this weekend that I PASSED THE PE!!!! I am a professional engineer and can now put ", P.E." after my name!!!!!! :) SUPER pumped about that!!!!!!! Did not want to have to take that test more than once!!!!

Update on the rest of the weekend to come later (field Christmas party and baby brother's graduation from LSU).

Travel Tuesday and an Update

Yesterday I was hope sick with a bug of some sort.... and I am the only person in the world, who when sick doesnt drop a SINGLE pound.. my body loves me...

I will have to update on deer camp later, because I dont have pictures with me... in short, no deer but I did get my first turkey! I am litterally going to be putting Christmas dinner on the table- healthy turkey breasts- I am just hoping it doesnt taste too gamey...

I didnt eat yesterday til about 3- and had some cheese and crackers and then ate some dinner once I kept that down too... I am feeling much better, but still not 100%. We had pork chops from my pig I got- they were SOOOO tiny, as in 1 ounce each! So we had a few of those each, steamed broccoli, and sweet potato fries. I am going to go low carb this week, I was going to do no carb, but low is bette than where I have been, and I need to start somewhere.

I am feeling much better today!

Now to my weekly topic... TRAVEL TUESDAY!

I was reading my T&L yesterday and they talked about the 101 places you should see- I have been to 13 of them... next on the list is Galway Ireland... and I talked about that one last week.. another place I REALLY want to go, but worry about the unrest there lately is EGYPT!!!!

I want to ride a camel....

enjoy the beauty of the pyramids...

and cruise down the Nile River looking for crocs!!!!

The culture and beauty really intrigues me... I have wanted to go to Egypt and the Holy Land for years, but I keep waiting due to what I see in the news and it just keeps getting worse and worse... I hope one day there is peace so I can see these places and do these things... or that I get up the courage to just go anyway!!!

Goals For the Weekend at Deer Camp!

We are headed to deer camp today.... and its going to be really hard to eat right... my food will be limited to what they have there... but I am going to try to make the best choices I can, unlike last deer camp trip.... I wont go into details, but a lot of these were slain:

They are soooo good and while shopping for snacks it was MY idea, because I was crazy and thinking "what can 3 days of trashy eating really do???" - of course they can undo the past months weight loss- why not??? BLAH!

Well I DONT want that to happen this time, especially since I havent been as regular about my workouts this week, got in two great weights sessions, and no running.... shame on me... I am going to try to this weekend! I am still sore from the weights, and I pushed it too hard BOTH times, but thats my fault!

Goals for this weekend:
1. limit sugar intake- no doughnuts!
2. make healthy choices
3. get in some form of exercise each day!
4. eat healthy on the way there and home- its a 5 hour trip- I am notorious for car snacking- so going to watch that!!!
5. not healthy food related- but land a big buck! :)

Alot of people have daily themes for posts each day... and I may not post every day, but I like that idea and thought of some yesterday...

Monday- Weekend Recap
Just an update on the happenings of the weekend.

Tuesday- Travel Bug Tuesday
I can talk about places I have been and enjoyed or places I am planning to go! I have a LONG list of places I want to visit- so this shouldnt be hard!

Wednesday- Workouts and Weigh In
Post my goal for the next week of workouts I want to get in and a report on how I did the following week along with weigh in comments.

Thursday- Recipes
I need to try more healthy recipes- I pin them, rip out magazine pages, and all sorts of cookbooks all the time, this way I can try at least one a week and give my thoughts on the results!

Friday- Goals for the Weekend
I will set goals for what I want to accomplish over the weekend!

Christmas and planking..

Monday night we went for the third time as a couple to cut down our Christmas tree, this is a tradition I had growing up that I wanted to start with my new family :)

The hubs enjoys being a lumberjack for the afternoon!

headed home with our tree

the finished product!!! LSU tree, of course!

Jake has one Clemson ornament... he said we didnt have to put it up this year because LSU and Clemson are playing in the Chickfila bowl- but I am a good sport and let him put it up... and so the rivalry begins!!!!

Mama and some others started the plank challenge this month... so I figured I would too, although late!

Monday's plank... missed yesterday, so will do two today, I am not starting at 30 seconds, I did it as long as I could- I want to push myself... this was after a grueling weights workout Monday... I am still SUPER sore!!! Sports conditioning class at the gym today will be another good kick in the pants... I need it!
