I know I already posted today AND I had a link up yesterday,
but this is a link up that I CAN NOT miss… because I am a sappy romantic, AND
because I am one of the luckiest girls in the world to be married to the man of
my dreams!!!
Its 2010, I had completely given up on love and decided to
just be really awesome at my job. I had just turned 26 in March and was okay
that I was single and working and not going to get married and live the typical
life that a lot of my friends had already started. I saw a lot of friends
settling for less than what they deserve and knew that was NOT what I wanted to
do. I had a dog and decided to get a second, I could just be the crazy dog
lady! My dog loved me and was happy to see me every day, I didn’t need a man. I
had a great job and made good money and could be independent.
That’s when I friend called me, one of the guys I graduated
from LSU with, he said he had a coworker and friend that he wanted to set me up
with, he said he thought we would go well together. I was doubtful, but I
figured I could give him permission to give the guy my number, I mean he
probably wouldn’t even call anyway, right? I was shocked when he called me the
very next day, we talked on the phone for an hour, and only stopped because I
was headed to the gym for a class. He then called me every day for about a week
and it was just easy with him, there were no awkward moments in the
conversation, it was nice, so when he asked me if we could meet one day for
lunch (our offices at the time were pretty close to each other) I said sure.
Again, I am still skeptical at this point but I figured I go to lunch sometimes
with vendors all the time, if this guy turns out to be a total weirdo, its only
30-45 minutes of my life and then its over and I don’t have to see him again. I
then stalked him looked him up on Facebook and saw he had a girl in his
profile picture with him, which did make me hesitate, but again, its just lunch
right? (it ended up being his sister)
We met at the restaurant and I was completely smitten, he
was HOTT and seemed like a gentleman, I didn’t think guys like this existed
anymore, I was blown away! The waitress thought we were married, I still to
this day don’t know if that is a good sign or not, but its pretty funny since
we did get married. We were pretty much inseparable after that. I fell hard…
and knew it wouldn’t be pretty if it didn’t work, but I somehow knew it would and
that he was the one, it used to always annoy me when people would say they just
knew when they were with their future spouse, but I finally understood what
they meant when I was with Jake.
We dated for a year and five months when he proposed and I had NO idea he was proposing that day. The weekend before a friend announced that she was engaged and all our friends were hounding Jake about when are you going to ask Melissa and I kept telling him that it wasn’t coming from me and apologizing for their behavior... little did I know he had just told them all he was proposing to me. Then the night before we were at one of my friends houses and she was talking about rings and showing us what she wanted and again I told him I was sorry that all my friends were bugging him about this and that I wanted him to know it had nothing to do with me and he said “its ok just don’t drink the kool aid”. Well I was pissed, I had always made sure not to pressure him or bring up the topic of marriage, I wanted it to be his idea and I wanted him to lead the way on those topics… and he did talk about marrying me, A LOT! So when he said that, I was not happy. I even told my friends the day he proposed, “we are never getting married, I am never getting married”, he had me completely fooled!
It was October 8, 2011, LSU’s biggest game of the season,
hosting Florida… I LOVE LSU football and was super excited. At half time a guy
proposed to his girlfriend two people over from me, which caused me to say a
few things that probably freaked him out: “you don’t propose to a girl at half
time, that is SO stupid, she is going to be staring at the ring and miss the
second half AND what if we lost? The engagement would be tainted with defeat,
SUCH a bad idea”. Florida started to gain on LSU and Jake started freaking out,
but luckily LSU won the game. After the game my sister came over to hang out,
which isn’t anything different, and I asked her to take Jake and my picture
with the field in the background because we hadn’t gotten a picture together
yet and he had us get matching shirts for the game the night before so I
thought it would be fun. After she took the picture he said “Melissa I have
something I want to ask you” and so I get pissed, I am thinking to myself,
proposing is NOT something to joke about dude!! And then he starts fumbling in
his pocket and I am floored… completely shocked, this cant be happening… and
then he asked me to marry him and I was ecstatic and said YES! My sister got
the whole thing on camera and it was all his idea. He also set up an engagement
lunch with my entire family the next day, my aunts, grandma, cousins, and all.
April 28, 2012 we vowed to spend the rest of our lives
together and I keep falling more and more in love with him every day! He is THE
most amazing man I have ever met!
