Trainer Workout

It literally hurts me to breathe today. I am in a lot of pain.

If you haven't ever worked out with a trainer I would suggest it. I have worked out with trainers before, but this guy was legit. Instead of just telling me what to do and counting my reps. He told me what to do, had me count my own reps and he walked around me 360 degrees to look at my form and helped show me how to do things the correct way. I strongly recommend everyone have this done!

For example, I have been doing pushups the wrong way my whole life and never knew it til now. I also lean too far forward when squatting because I watch my knees and make sure they don't go over my toes, well he showed me a way to ensure that wouldn't happen without having to give up good form at the same time - yes I did squats yesterday and I know I am not supposed to, but they were just to 90 degrees. I squatted onto a bench which really helps you get your form right. I also did reverse pushups for the first time in my life. I did a lot of good basic exercises that caused me a lot of pain. I plan to do this workout again tomorrow and keep doing it til I get good at it.

If you cant do pushups on your toes, do them on an incline instead of on your knees - I learned that yesterday and I will be doing that from now on. It will make you stronger faster!

We worked out for just over an hour. He showed me moves that will work each of the four sections of my abs also. I will be doing those to make my abs stronger in addition to the cool plank exercises he gave me on a bosu ball. Doing exercises while planking is challenging, but it makes the time you are planking go by faster!

Last night I was beat and the boys knew my legs were screaming so they snuggled up with me and kept my legs warm for me... and yes I use two throws as blankets because I am too tall for one to work by itself if I want my feet covered!

I had too many carbs yesterday, but I am working on it.

Stop and Give Me 30 Challenge Update and Goals For Week

Friday I got in a GREAT lower body workout with a friend... and she had trouble keeping up and is in great shape, which made me feel great!

I tried changing my band routine and did it on the treadmill and that was intense and I LOVED it! Set it to 1 mph and did one minute on each side walking sideways and repeated it twice, GREAT burn and I didn't feel too strange because I had someone doing it with me!

This weekend was spent out of town and I ended up using my two rest days and I enjoyed them... I had off work yesterday ( we have a floating holiday every year and this year they gave it to us early - which was nice) so I stayed home and got stuff done! I baked some egg muffins using our venison sausage - forgot to add pepper and don't use salt so they were a bit bland, but not bad...

.

Then, since I had used all my rest days this weekend I got in an intense 30 minute workout... 6 different rounds of tabata exercises on the kickboxing bag!

For those that don't know Tabatas drills are 8 rounds of 20 seconds of 100% effort and 10 seconds of rest. I did 6 x 8 rounds to get my 30 minutes and I rested a minute between each drill. You want to die doing these so a minute should seem short. My routine:

jab cross
roundhouse alternating sides each round
upper cuts
front kicks
hooks
planking

An update on my challenge so far- last week I burnt a total of 2834 calories - almost a whole pound!!!

This weeks workout goals:
Monday - tabatas circuit with the bag
Tuesday- full body workout with a new trainer
Wednesday- tabatas circuit with the bag
Thursday- lower body workout
Friday - upper body workout
Saturday- manual labor at the property or a walk
Sunday- bike ride

Yesterday we celebrated Valentines Day because we are going out of town this weekend... when I got back from the gym at lunch these were waiting for me at the front desk.. lavender roses like the ones my bridesmaids carried in my wedding:

My upper body workout burnt some calories yesterday.. and I had a salad with no dressing to keep it light because I was pretty sure dinner would be good.

...and I was right, we went to Perry's and got steak! I failed horribly at getting pictures, but I did get one of the centerpiece... and the dessert I ordered and luckily wasn't that crazy about (had 3 bites and quit) it was their bread pudding topped with a marshmellow and filled with chocolate chips, but it wasn't really hot and not worth the calories, so we brought it home for the hubs to finish later, he ordered bananas foster... that's really the only thing to get there - its SO GOOD!

a pic of my dessert:

even with a rich dinner out I was pretty goo about my macros considering - but that's because the rest of the day was all protein and veggies all the time! I consider it a win!

Challenge Day 3 Update

Yesterday was my cardio day... I did 11 miles on the spin bike in 25 minutes doing intervals between 10 and 13 resistance and then I did intervals on the elliptical for 20 minutes 1.88 miles going between resistance 5 and 8. My knee started to hurt at the end, but I was finished so that was nice. Then I ended with some planking - because I hate it.

button
That is my NSV - I am going to work on my abs because they are weak, I am not going to avoid working on them because they are weak. Guess what? I held two planks for 30 seconds - HUGE success for me... I am VERY pleased with myself!

My calendar is looking nice, with 3/3 done - I plan to color code my x's - blue is upper body, yellow is lower body, and pink is cardio! I am not a stickers person - I like having lists and getting to cross things off. Or in this case x them off.

Yesterday was great food wise til dinner - then with running errands and all we were out super late... so we got fast food... reality people. It happens. Doing cardio also made me want to eat my face off all afternoon... weights are so less hunger inducing!! AND I skipped my protein bar at 3pm because I was in meetings... another way to fail quickly! Salad for lunch today - no joking around, getting back on it now. Hubs is taking me out for Vday tonight, so dinner may be another goner, but I can eat healthy until dinner and go from there!

Challenge Day 2 Update and a Lower Body Workout

I did really good yesterday, even though I was tempted to go out to dinner because the hubs got home after a few days away. I ended up cooking elk tacos and made mine into nachos with my two taco shells so I could have more protein and less carbs - we used the whole wheat tacos from Ortega - they were amazing and kept my carbs lower for the day! I know part of my goal was no carbs after 4, but I am changing that part to just try to keep lower carbs for the whole day! Still not at my goal split from IIFYM.COM but I am doing much better than I was before - I actually had 150g of protein yesterday!!!

I got in a 10 minute warmup walk on the treadmill - I wanted to run so bad I could scream, but I know my knee needs rest. Then I did lower body weights workout using ankle weights for most of the workout, it was killer - my legs were on fire! I didn't think it would be possible to cause that much of a burn without lunges/squats my go to leg exercises, but its possible, you just have to get creative!

Lower Body Workout:

10 min warm-up

Weights section (repeat twice):

deadlifts with 50lb bar

walking to the side with the elastic band wrapped around both ankles - works your outer thighs (15 big steps both directions- the larger your step the more you are working) I used the red band

ankle weight moves: (I had four sand bags in my ankle weight - I believe it was around 4-6lbs)
standing up and keeping your leg straight kick your leg back - works the butt and your legs - 15 each leg
standing up swing your leg across your body and up in the air on the opposite side - works your inner thighs - 15 each leg
on all fours lift one leg up and back - works your butt - 15 each leg
on all fours lift one leg up to the side (fire hydrants) - 15 each leg
sit with your back against the wall and lift your leg off the ground, while keeping it straight and hold for 10 seconds - twice each leg

calf raise machine with 90lbs - 15 total

Challenge Day 1 Recap

Yesterday at lunch I got in a great workout in just under an hour and burnt 584 calories! I posed this picture to instagram and really appreciate all the kind words I got in response. I captioned it "proof you can workout at lunch and head back to the office not looking like a hot mess, just a little abused"

I am very lucky to have flexible hours, and being able to take an hour and a half at lunch to workout - my boss works out at lunch too so he knows its important! With leaving for work before 6am and getting home at or after 6pm most days, if I don't go at lunch - I don't get in a workout usually. I just keep a second set of everything at the gym in my locker so getting ready is easy and I use a shower cap and blow dry the sweat from my hair..

Yesterday I did an upper body circuit and am feeling pretty sore today. I am using heavier weights and feeling stronger already!

I went to the grocery store last night and tried my hand at spaghetti squash, and it wasn't too bad. You can tell its not noodles, but it satisfies the what to put with my venison and Prego that isn't high in carbs need.

Speaking of carbs, I did pretty good on day 1 of getting close to my macro goals. I had a protein bar and a shake yesterday so I am thinking I need to add another one of those and I will be even closer today! Or maybe I will have some eggs this morning.

I ate around 1700 calories so my net calories for the day was around 1200. I will take it!

Stop and Give Me 30!

I am starting a challenge today. The MLFC ladies are getting together for a 30 day challenge - to get in 30 minutes of physical activity a day every day!

I did hop on the scale this morning, but haven't gotten my measurements, so I will do that tonight, but I am hitting the gym at lunch today.

I need this kick in the pants. March is next month and I turn the big 3-0...

We are going to be loading IG with tags: #stopandgivemethirty

Feel free to join in the fun!

I got my hair done on Friday... it was long overdue and I was sporting some serious roots. Since its still pretty cold I decided to do highlights and low lights... next visit will be all highlights, but I like what came of the mix - I try to do this every so often to make sure I still have highlights and not just a full head of blonde hair!

Before and after:

I also decided this weekend I want to get a Roomba or equivalent... anyone have one? Any you would recommend or suggest I stay clear of? With two dogs and two cats the hair gets to be too much and I need something that will keep up with it all the time. Sweeping/moping once a week isn't cutting it. I figured we could get one for downstairs and see how we like it and get a second for upstairs if we really like it. I googled reviews and found this, but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

Short Term Goals

My NSV is that I am making goals... I am changing. I can do this. I have started and quit a million times, but I am starting again and that's what matters!

button

I want to lose 5lbs by the end of this month.

I have just over 6 weeks til I turn 30 - I want to lose 10lbs by then.

I have just over 11 weeks until my 2nd wedding anniversary - I want to lose 15lbs by then.

5lb goal increments. That's the plan.

I am going to plan a long weekend for my 30th and another for our anniversary to give me extra motivation to lose those lb's.... those pesky lbs I need to lose!

My daily goals to help me reach those 5lb goals:
1. 100 ounces of water a day
2. fruit/veggies at every meal
3. workout at least 5 days a week
4. protein of some sort at every meal
5. no fried food
6. no sweets/desserts
7. no carbs after 4pm

Knee Update

It still clicks during certain movements, but the constant pain isn't there anymore. I have NOT been diligent with my PT exercises... and I hate that. Today is a month since I was told I needed to rest. I was supposed to add 1-2lbs a week on my leg lifts. Yesterday was the first day I added weights. I went with 2lbs. I waited until I felt doing them without weights was pretty easy, but I wasn't doing them daily like I was supposed to. I did them 2-3 times a week and that's it.

I got in a great lower body workout yesterday and 10 minutes on the bike. Today I plan on getting in 10 minutes on the elliptical and upper body weights in. I am the only one who can pull myself out of this funk. Running was my therapy and I need to find a new one and I am hoping weights can do that for me, but I am going to have to lift more than 2 days a week to see results.

I am also just finishing up with my monthly visitor so that should help my mood too.

My doc said once I don't have pain anymore and can do the leg lifts with 12lbs I can try running again. If I add 2lbs a week I can try running again in mid March. I just need to do this.

I have cut out sugar and am working on the rest of my diet, but I do great for breakfast and lunch and still struggle with dinner - a lot of that has to do with lack of preparation. I went to the grocery store yesterday and I feel better prepared for today.

Kroger has a version of My Fit Foods meals and I am excited to try my first one at lunch today.

Anyone watch Biggest Loser? I am shocked - she doesn't look healthy?! I have it DVR'd, but googled the results this morning and was disappointed. I hope she can find a healthy medium now that the show is over. Its sad to see people go from unhealthy to healthy and back to unhealthy again. Its like she isn't better off than when she started the show because she is still unhealthy just in the opposite direction.

Marathon Weekend Update

I am still here, just been super busy lately and a little down and who wants to talk about all of that... in between the marathon weekend that wasn't for me, my dad's anniversary, and work being really crappy lately.. I just haven't felt up to posting.

I got to see my mawmaw this weekend, which was amazing - she gets worse every time I see her and I hate to see her suffering, but I do love spending time with her, she is a very special lady!

I also got in some QT with my sister and BFF who after watching my cousin run his first marathon has agreed to train and do one with me!!!! I am OVER THE MOON excited about this!

I forgot my phone at home this morning so I don't have my pictures, but I can steal a few from FB:

It was fun being a tourist for a few hours Saturday in my own city...

I was glad to go support my cousin, but super sad I couldn't run... I almost cried MULTIPLE times Sunday watching the runners... it was a bit ridiculous... but I am so proud of him for rocking that route!!!!
